Traditional saunas v Infrared Saunas
53With a traditional sauna there is intense heat and low humidity generated when water is splashed over the hot rocks in the heater unit, or very traditionally using a wood burning stove. Temperatures in these sauna cabins normally range between 80-90° and this additional burst of steam intensifies the heat.
On the other hand an infrared sauna is really sauna by name only because you sit in a cabin and it is heated, but the heat in this form is far more gentle and is often used in heat therapy sessions.
A traditional sauna is more about a form of detoxing the body, sweating out impurities and therefore the hotter the better with the steam blasts combined with intermittent cold showers or plunge pool dips outside the cabin helping to change the body temperature and help the detox process.
With an infrared sauna the heater does heat the air inside the cabin but only really so it feels “toasty” not hot, the benefits of using this type of sauna is when you sit inside you are effectively sitting right on top of the heater and it is the direct heat that has the health benefits to the body.

Good to know the advantages between traditional and infrared saunas! I'm thinking infrared, however, as I think it will help with chronic pain as well as detox and complimenting my work out. Thank you for sharing!
